Custom Aluminum Clamp Shell for the Semiconductor Industry
A customer in the semiconductor industry contacted us at Licari Manufacturing to produce the clamp shell pictured here. The clamps are machined from aluminum and measure 11.125" in length, 6.25" in width, and 8.875" in height. For this project, two of these clamps were machined using our CNC vertical milling centers. We utilize both 3-axis and 4-axis CNC machining centers as well as a range of manual machining equipment to achieve complex geometries and precision tolerances. Dimensional tolerances on this project were held to ±0.005".
Machining was performed by one of our journeyman machinists. To accurately machine complex projects, it is essential to have both the right equipment and the right personnel. Today’s dimensional tolerances require advanced manufacturing equipment, but that equipment cannot produce accurate parts without a highly skilled, well trained machinists. The milling center used in this project was programmed using SURFCAM. SURFCAM is a globally renowned CAM programming package that allows us to take 3D models to create custom parts using customer drawings.
After machining, the shell was finished with a clear anodized coating for increased corrosion resistance. The total turnaround time on this project was 3 weeks.
